INDUCTIVE LEARNING, THE LAW OF 5 | Day 3

“You are the average of top 5 people you spend the most time with”

In our previous Mentor Steps post, we saw that our subconscious mind is majorly responsible for how our life has turned out (see here if you missed). Now the important thing to look at is what are the major sources which our subconscious mind is feeding from, here’s where the things start getting interesting.

We as humans, during our evolution, over a period of millions of years, have developed an extraordinary information gathering system. Since the time we are born, we start consuming all kind of information we can find, from our environment. We unknowingly learn tons of things from our parents, siblings or other family members and our behavior is mostly a result of all that learning. “When you see your mom being kind to the Maid of the house, you end up being kind too”. It’s indirect inductive learning (Science bruh, believe me)

Alhough we barely notice it, inductive learning plays a huge role in our lives even when we have grown up (sic). You might have seen it with your best friend or spouse, over a period of time if you spend a lot of time with each other, you guys start having the same kind of thoughts, you unknowlingly end up making the same decisions about things and events. We become who we surround ourselves with. This is because just like old times, our subconsicous mind is still feeding from the environment.

Trust me when I say “Choose the people your surround yourself with very wisely”, their thoughts, their actions might become your thought, actions at some point. Stay away from negative people as much as possible, no matter if they are part of your family, close friend circle or any other group. Try to surround yourself with people who are purposeful, motivated and achieving great things in life. If you can’t find a good group of people, try to surround yourself with good thoughts, read good books, watch great ted talks, learn to always be in a positive mind space cause that is when you will make the best decisions.

I’ll be honest, the Law of 5 does have an exception even after me promoting it as a religion; It is not valid for leader personality types and there is a reason for that. Leaders over the years have trained themselves to not be affected by their environment, they essentially have the same thoughts no matter what other opinions or people they are surrounded with, so if you lie in that personality type you have already mastered one really important element for success which is ‘perseverance with your true beliefs’.

We have come to the end and I loved bringing this thought to you, cause it has played a major role in my journey as an Entrepreneur.  Anyhow, I would love to read your thoughts about this, share your personal stories or experiences if any. See ya soon, Until next time!

      1. Hi Aman, I have been reading tons of books along the way. Some of the books that really changed the game for me were
        1) 10X Rule by Grant Cardone
        2) Crush it by Gary Vaynerchuk
        3) Rework by Jason Fried
        4) The one thing by Gary Keller
        5) 4 hours work week by Tim Ferris
There are many more books that I read, but these are the books I would suggest to anybody who is getting started. They will essentially help you develop the right mindset for starting a business. Cheers, and keep crushing it!
